Petitella georgiae – False Rummynose Tetra

Petitella georgiae or in False Rummynose Tetra is a peaceful, lively shoal fish that is not so easy to keep as it is rather sensitive to a water change without a proper preparation medium. It is also an excellent companion for fish from the”black water zone” such as dwarf cichlids and corydoras. The aquarium should be densely planted at the edges and background while leaving plenty of free swimming space in the middle . A dimmed light by using floating plants and a dark substrate bring out the colours of the fish.

Origin

Brazil, Peru.

Diet

Small live foods such as Artemia and small mosquito larvae should be given as food. Dry food is accepted as well.

Breeding of the Petitella georgiae – False Rummynose Tetra

Breeding in the aquarium is very difficult. In very soft water, a small number of eggs are deposited among fine-leaved plants such as Java moss and fertilized. Remove the parents after spawning as they will eat their own eggs. The young will hatch after 30 hours. As soon as they swim freely, they must be fed with the very finest infusions.
