Discover Fish by Continent
Do you dream of an aquarium with fish that you would also encounter together in nature? For example, a colorful South American aquarium, a lively Asian tank, or perhaps a special aquarium for cichlids from Lake Malawi? Then this is the perfect place to start your journey of discovery!
On this page, we have sorted all freshwater fish in our database according to the continent they come from. This helps you make an initial selection of fish that are geographically compatible. For the really popular and species-rich areas, such as the African Rift Lakes, we have even created separate categories for Malawi, Tanganyika, and Victoria.
An Important Tip!
Please note: a continent is, of course, enormous! The water values (such as temperature or acidity) in a river in the Amazon are very different from those in a mountain stream in the Andes, even though both are located in South America. So consider this page as a starting point and a broad selection, but not as a guarantee that all fish from one region can simply be kept together.
Therefore, always check the specific description of a fish to see if it really suits your aquarium and the other inhabitants in terms of water values, behavior, and size.
Are you looking for something very specific, such as a fish for a certain water hardness or of a maximum size? Then use our super handy search filter!
