Gnathocharax steindachneri

Gnathocharax steindachneri is a peaceful, lively schooling fish excellent for keeping with other smaller salmon. The aquarium should be planted densely on the edges and background while leaving plenty of free swimming space in the middle. A dark bottom and dim lighting by means of floating plants make the colors stand out better. Since they are good jumpers, a well-fitting cover pane is not a luxury. A powerful surface flow is much appreciated.

This species was described by Fowler in 1913.

Origin

South America; Brazil, Guyana, Venezuela.

Diet

Small live food should be given as food. Dry food is also accepted.

Breeding Gnathocharax steindachneri

I couldn’t find anything about breeding in the aquarium.
