Labeo cyclorhynchus,Harlequin Sharkminnow
Labeo cyclorhynchus is one of over 20 Labeo species found in the Congo, from the Central African Republic to Gabon. The species is also known by its synonym Labeo
variegatus. This name already betrays the great variation in the variegated spot pattern within the species.
Like all African Labeo species, Labeo cyclorhynchus is not really suitable for the normal aquarium. Although they are group animals, within the group they form such a large territory that larger specimens in an aquarium can only be kept solitarily. Labeo longipinnis grows to 16 centimeters in length. Compared to other fish, they are quite peaceful, provided they do not have a similar body shape. Other bottom dwellers such as catfish are therefore best avoided.
Origin
Labeo cyclorhynchus originates from the jungle streams in Kongo.
Diet
In nature it mainly grazes aufwuchs. It is an omnivore, so sufficient variety must be provided. Vegetable food should not be missing from the menu.
Breeding
Breeding Labeo cyclorhynchus in the aquarium has not yet been successful.
