Gambusia speciosa
Occasionally the Gambusia speciosa is a bit aggressive, but in general it can still be kept well in the community aquarium with other peaceful fish. The water composition is not too demanding, but it must be clear and oxygenated. A good filter is therefore necessary. The aquarium should be densely planted at the edges and background, and free swimming space should be left open in the middle.
This species was described in 1859 by Girard.
Synonym: Zygonectus speciosa.
Diet
It is an omnivore with a preference for live food in the form of mosquito larvae, water fleas and Artemia. Dry food is also eaten without problems.
Breeding Gambusia speciosa
The breeding of Gambusia speciosa is quite easy. The species is oviparous and every 4 to 5 weeks up to 50 young are born. If the parents are well fed, the young are left alone. The young can be raised quite easily with Liquifry and after a few days also with finely rubbed dry food.
